LAN Ecuador is a subsidiary of LAN Airlines (formerly LAN Chile), considered by many to be the leading carrier in South America, and is an affiliate member of the oneworld alliance. The airline currently operates all flights with LAN aircraft regsitered in Chile, and the LAN Ecuador name exists primarily for political reasons due to local restrictions prohibiting foreign ownership of airlines in Ecuador.
