The port town of Gdansk, historically also called Danzig in German, is Poland’s main port city and has one of the most beautifully rebuilt old towns in Eastern Europe. Most of Gdansk/Danzig was left in ruins by the end of world war II and was subsequently rebuilt using the original blueprints and most of the original bricks, making a walk through the Motława River bank, a walk back in time to the gilded age of the Hanseatic League.
